A focus on the recordings made during Yutaka Sado’s tenure as chief conductor of the Lamoureux Orchestra – the longest in the ensemble’s history, spanning eighteen years. Under his leadership, the orchestra experienced a genuine revival after decades of relative stagnation, resuming its recording activities, rediscovering its founding values of openness to the public and musical daring, and not shying away from contemporary works and the blending of genres. In this album, Yutaka Sado has brought Erik Satie’s orchestral works back into the spotlight (works that have been largely overlooked compared to his piano repertoire). Satie was a regular visitor to the Lamoureux concerts but never had the honour of hearing his music performed there during his lifetime. Sado’s verve brings out all the charm and originality of this music, from Parade to La belle excentrique, via the pieces for “orchestre de brasserie” (café-concert orchestra) and the orchestrations of his works by Poulenc or Debussy.
