Airs d’opéras

Marking the 50th anniversary of her passing on October 18th, light coloratura soprano Janine Micheau epitomized post-war French vocal art: supreme agility, meticulous attention to prosody, and an instantly recognizable, focused timbre. One of the defining operatic figures of her era, she mentored the next generation, most famously her fellow Toulouse-born soprano Mady Mesplé. This magnificent recital pairs her with Georges Prêtre in arias by Mozart, Meyerbeer, Offenbach, and Puccini.
