Aleksander Dębicz – pianist, composer, arranger, and music director – is one of the most versatile and innovative artists on the Polish music scene. He is the creator and performer of an original style he calls cinematic classical – blending classical language with the narrative qualities of film scores and the freedom of improvisation. Improvisation and original music have always been the foundation of his work, both as a soloist and in ensemble settings. In his compositions, Dębicz explores film, classical, and jazz structures, creating works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, orchestras, and incidental music. He has released seven original albums on Warner Classics and is a five-time Fryderyk Award nominee.
Dębicz is also active in theatre and film music. In 2025, he composed the score for the Television Theatre production of Biedermann and the Arsonists, directed by Jan Holoubek and starring Andrzej Seweryn. In 2022, he won the international Bridgerton Scoring Competition, outperforming over 4,000 participants worldwide, with his composition praised by Kris Bowers, composer of the original Netflix soundtrack. For his score to the Polish Radio drama Anna Karenina, he received the award at the Two Theatres Festival (2019).
For years, he has collaborated with countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński. Together they created the #LetsBaRock project, combining Baroque music with contemporary sounds, presented at venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Berlin Philharmonie. In 2025, the duo received two prestigious O!Lśnienia awards – in the category “Classical Music, Opera, and Jazz” and the Audience Grand Prize.
As a pianist, he performs worldwide, appearing on classical stages with orchestras such as Sinfonia Varsovia and Sinfonietta Cracovia, as well as on contemporary stages, including three appearances at the Męskie Granie festival. He is also a sought-after arranger, creating works for artists including Joanna Kulig, Szymon Komasa, and Bulgarian singer Victoria. His original reworkings, such as interpretations of songs by the Elderly Gentlemen’s Cabaret, have been widely acclaimed.
A graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, he continually redefines the boundaries of classical music as a composer, performer, and curator, seamlessly merging tradition with innovation.
