Bartók: Piano Concerto No. 3, Sz. 119

Bartók's third piano concerto was his last composition, written in difficult circumstances amid illness, exile and financial hardship. More classical in appearance than his other concertos, the third is a unique piece, marked by nostalgia for Hungary, which he had left behind forever, and full of references to the nature and folklore of his native country. It is performed here by his compatriot Annie Fischer, conducted by Igor Markevitch.
