Marc André (b. 2002) is a French double bassist whose elegant sound, expressive individuality and refined musicianship have brought him growing international recognition. In 2025, he became the first double bassist in history to sign an exclusive contract with Warner Classics. His debut album will be released in spring 2026, marking a significant milestone for the instrument on the global stage.
Praised by the International Classical Music Awards for “the most exquisite and elegant sound on the double bass,” Marc André is recognised for the purity of his tone, natural sense of line and emotional depth. A formative moment in his artistic journey came when Gautier Capuçon discovered his playing and invited him to perform in Un Été en France, initiating an ongoing collaboration.
He has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Vorarlberger Symphonieorchester and the Liechtenstein Sinfonieorchester, and has performed in leading halls such as the Wiener Musikverein and the Teatro Colón. His 2025/26 season includes the world premiere of a new concerto written for him by Ivan Boumans and further international debuts.
A laureate of several major international prizes, Marc André represents a new generation of artists redefining the double bass as a compelling and versatile solo voice. He performs on an 1827 Viennese instrument by Martin Stoß, generously loaned by a private Austrian sponsor.
