Three yet unreleased live recordings from 1971 and 1973 that exemplify the full range of Richard Strauss's oeuvre: his monumental Alpine Symphony, the comedic-theatrical suite to Der Bürger als Edelmann (The Bourgeois Gentleman) and the intimate, ethereal Metamorphoses. The Munich Philharmonic plays under its principal conductor Rudolf Kempe. Kempe's unmistakable interpretations are characterised by structural clarity and tonal transparency, combined with a subtle sense of drama – a document of its era and, at the same time, a timeless homage to one of the most important Strauss interpreters of the 20th century.
