Récital Mado Robin

On August 29th, we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Félicien David, a major figure of French Romanticism who left a lasting mark on opera by introducing an Orientalist style inspired by his journeys to the Levant, long before Saint-Saëns or Bizet. His opéra-comique La perle du Brésil is similarly steeped in exoticism and features his most famous aria - a vocal tour de force taking the soprano up to a dizzying F6! Listen to Charmant oiseau, sung by the legendary Mado Robin (the first star-soprano in post-War France) and conducted by Pierre Dervaux, in this dazzling 1957 recital largely devoted to the evocation of birdsongs in French opera and light music.
