The period from 1950 to 1957, during which Sir Adrian Boult was at the helm of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, represents only a fraction of their shared history, which spans three decades. Having completely restructured the orchestra, opened it up to new repertoires and profoundly reshaped its orchestral character, Boult left the ensemble… only to become its president a few years later, whilst conducting countless concerts and recordings as a guest conductor.
