A great lover of Prague and Czech musical life since his student days with Václav Talich, Sir Charles Mackerras is one of the country's most iconic artistic figures, despite his Australian nationality. For many years, he was one of the most frequently invited conductors of the Prague Chamber Orchestra, with whom he also made many recordings (such was the depth of their collaboration that he was named Honorary Principal Guest Conductor in 1997).
