Gounod: Roméo et Juliette

Here is Michel Plasson’s first recording of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, available digitally for the first time. It is still the major reference for this work thanks to its magnetic couple Catherine Malfitano and Alfredo Kraus, and was the first to include both the beautiful “Poison” aria and the epithalamium. A true specialist of French romantic opera, Michel Plasson would record Roméo et Juliette once more a few years later with Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu, just as successfully.
