To mark the centenary of Marie-Claire Alain, the greatest organist of her time, to whom we pay tribute in a superb 53-CD box set due to be released at the end of the month. For the first time, we are releasing on streaming and download platforms a comprehensive overview of Buxtehude’s organ works: a brilliant interpretation of his preludes, toccatas and chorale variations, one of the finest collections ever dedicated to this great precursor of Bach. This is one of the very first recordings made on the organ at St Martin’s Church in Groningen, following its miraculous restoration - a superb North German Baroque instrument that had been considered beyond repair due to the ravages of time, haphazard restoration work and various forms of damage.
