Christoph von Dohnányi was one of the doyens of conductors and one of the greatest figures of his generation since his debut in Germany in the 1950s. A colourist of genius, capable of infusing his orchestras with unrivalled brilliance, he remains particularly associated with the Cleveland Orchestra, which he conducted for twenty years. During his tenure, he considerably expanded the orchestra's discography, notably with Teldec, a label for which he made several recordings in the 1980s and 1990s.
