The great Belgian mezzo-soprano Rita Gorr, who would have turned 100 on February 18th 2026, lit up the world's greatest stages with her rich, distinctive tone, powerful voice, and acting skills until her farewell performance in 2007 (at over 80 years of age!). She excelled particularly in the great tragic heroines of French opera, such as Alceste and Dalila, but also in Wagner and bel canto. This recital pays tribute to her immense talent with a collection of arias that demonstrate the breadth of her repertoire, magnified by the conducting of André Cluytens, Edward Downes and Lawrence Collingwood.
