Sibelius: Violin Concerto, Op. 47 - Vaughan Williams: Concerto accademico - Chausson: Poème, Op. 25 - Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in D Minor

Yehudi Menuhin and Sir Adrian Boult teamed up on many occasions, notably in their iconic rendition of Edward Elgar’s concerto. This album, bringing together recordings from the 1950s, includes lesser-known performances, with three concertos (interestingly, all in the key of D Minor) among which the Sibelius and the Vaughan Williams ones are made available for the first time digitally. Vaughan Williams’s concerto, sometimes called “Accademico”, is a lovely piece quite rarely recorded, inspired by the English folk tunes, whose premiere’s centenary will be ceebrated on November 6th.
