You may have seen the moving images of Valentyn Silvestrov, 84, the most celebrated living composer in Ukraine, fleeing his country at the very last moment and finally finding refuge in Germany. This album features pieces from his polystylistic period of the 70s, after he turned his back to the serialist avant-garde. These hypnotic works full of strange tones (recorded for the first time ever in this recording by the great Alexei Lubimov and otherwise completely unavailable online) reveal a unique personality we’re glad to pay homage to.
