Sabine Devieilhe

Following studies in cello and musicology, Sabine Devieilhe turned to the voice, counting Jocelyne Chamonin, Martine Surais and Elène Golgevit among her teachers. In 2011 the soprano graduated with First Prize (and the official, unanimous congratulations of the jury) from the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse. Throughout her studies she was already collaborating with ensembles including Pygmalion and Les Cris de Paris (cond. Geoffroy Jourdain), performing early music through to contemporary works; with Jean-Claude Malgoire, Les Arts florissants, Marc Minkowski and the Musiciens du Louvre, and Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel she began to explore the Baroque repertory from Bach to Rameau, while performances of Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Orchestre National d'Île de France and the Orchestre de Paris brought her to a wider public on stage.

The 2011-12 season saw Devieilhe make her bel canto debut as Amina in La Sonnambula under Jean-Claude Malgoire, who also chose her for the bravura role of La Folie in Rameau's Platée. She was then invited to the Aix-en-Provence Festival singing Serpetta in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera; her role debut as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute followed with Lyon National Opera, and for Montpellier Opera the coloratura soprano took on the title role of Lakmé. In 2013 Devieilhe received the Lyric Artist Discovery of the Year award at the 20th Victoires de la Musique; the same year she signed an exclusive recording contract with Erato. She also starred as Constance in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites (Christophe Honoré's production for l'Opéra de Lyon). Major debuts include the Opéra-Comique in Paris (Lakmé), l'Opéra National de Paris (Queen of the Night), and La Monnaie Royal Theatre in Brussels (Euridyce in Gluck's Orphée et Euridyce).

The 2014-15 season sees Devieilhe make role debuts in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande with Malgoire, and as Nanetta in Falstaff at Marseille Opera. She will also enthrall Glyndebourne audiences when she reprises L'Enfant et les Sortilèges. She recently sang at the grand opening gala of the Philharmonie de Paris, while other concert engagements include appearances with the Philharmonia at the Royal Festival in London and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm. A passionate interpreter of lieder and French mélodies, Devieilhe performs with pianist Anne Le Bozec at the Lyon National Opera and at the Auvers-Sur-Oise Festival, among other recital engagements.

Her first solo album Rameau: le Grand Théâtre de l’Amour with Les Ambassadeurs (November 2013) won her a Diapason d’Or and the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, as well as being named an Album of the Week on BBC Radio 3.
