Sir Antonio Pappano receives ISM Distinguished Musician Award

Congratulations to Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House and Rome’s Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia!

The conductor joins an illustrious list of recipients including Pierre Boulez, Jacqueline du Pré and Sir William Walton.

Pappano said, “When I perused the list of previous ISM Award recipients I gulped!  To be included in such an illustrious pantheon is an honour. The Society does crucial work to keep classical music alive, well and relevant in this country, especially for young people, so I am very proud indeed to be associated with it.”

The award recognises outstanding contributions to musical life in the UK.  The award, established in 1976, has previously been bestowed upon Dame Janet Baker, Pierre Boulez, Jacqueline du Pré, Sir William Walton, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

The ISM is the UK’s professional body for musicians and “champion the importance of music and protect the rights of those working within music through a range of services, campaigns, support and practical advice.”
