1955 was a pivotal year in Carlo Maria Giulini’s career. Having recently been appointed to La Scala, he was then one of the most prominent young conductors in the opera world, but was already looking to shift his focus toward instrumental music. He thus began a fruitful collaboration with the Philharmonia Orchestra, which would allow him to gradually come into his own in the symphonic and concertante repertoire. On one of his first albums with the London orchestra, he joined forces with concertmaster Manoug Parikian for a historic recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (released online for the first time in high resolution, accompanied by several previously unpublished stereo test sessions included in our physical box).
