Byrd: The Consort Music

July 4th: we commemorate the four hundredth anniversary of the passing of William Byrd, one of the greatest English composers throughout the ages. Byrd can be considered, among his numerous achievements, as the founding father of the viol consort genre. It is a music that does not give itself easily, but is of considerable refinement, particularly when performed by specialists from the Fretwork ensemble!
