Ernesto Lecuona: La Habanera - Piano Music from Cuba
1 Sep 2017
Composer: Ernesto Lecuona
Other participants: Kathryn Stott
Cuba is known for its lively music scene – yet “serious” music developed there relatively late. Ernesto Lecuona, who studied with Ravel in Paris in the 1920s, is one of its best known exponents. The works of the “Cuban Gershwin” blend Cuban and Afro-Cuban influences with European music and swinging jazz rhythms to make an unmistakably exotic musical cocktail.
