RIOPY launches two singles at the Piano City festival in Milan

The composer-pianist played two concerts at this unique festival headlined by Michael Nyman and Chilly Gonzales.

Composer-pianist RIOPY launched his new single, Drive, over the weekend, playing two concerts at the Piano City Milano festival. Italy's premier event dedicated to the instrument, championed by the likes of Einaudi, Michael Nyman and Chilly Gonzales, brings piano to the people in free concerts at unusual locations all over Milan.

On Saturday, 20 May, RIOPY performed at the industrial design centre and concept venue BASE. His intense, fluid improvisation was followed by an encore of Drivehis second single for Warner Classics, released on 19 May.

The following evening, this time outdoors in the historic Piazza San Sepolcro - with a Steinway grand specially delivered for the occasion and a 'backstage area' in the neighbouring police station - RIOPY played a recital dedicated to his own piano compositions, including his two first singles on Warner Classics, I love you and Drive.

The London-based pianist and Young Steinway Artist delighted Italian fans in a live interview and performance at the Red Bull Studios, broadcast on Red Bull Radio and Rai Radio2, in which he paid tribute to Ennio Morricone, spoke about his own cinematic piano style, and concluded with a piano improvisation based on the theme 'Ecstasy of Gold' from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
