Joanna MacGregor featured in Classical Music Magazine
Warner Classics and Jazz is delighted to congratulate Joanna MacGregor
on the successful release of her second album with WCJ, her recording of Bach's seminal Goldberg Variations
. Following on from Live in Buenos Aires
, MacGregor's Goldberg Variations was recorded at the same times as Sidewalk Dances
, her tribute to the American composer Moondog, and has an energy and vitality that demonstrates that Bach can stand as thoroughly contemporary sounding despite the age and history behind the music.
Speaking to Classical Music Magazine, MacGregor said "The driving force of Bach is incredible. He has a way of dealing with chromaticism and rhythm that is hard to beat. When you put Bach next to a modern composer, you realise how extraordinary he is".
With the imminent release of MacGregor's four-disc boxset of Messiaen
, the Joanna MacGregor will be playing a number of concerts over coming weeks, including a performance at LSO St Luke's on Old Street in London on May 5th in a duo with Scanner, and with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre on May 13th
& May 20th
in the piano part of Messiaen's 1948 Turangalîla-Symphonie conducted by Valery Gergiev.
