May 2022 will be devoted to celebrating the centenary of the great figure Iannis Xenakis. One of the leading figures of the avant-garde for almost half a century, he expanded the borders of musical creativity thanks to his stunning credentials in mathematics and architecture. Eonta for piano and brass is an emblematic chamber work whose unusual instrumental combination and the use of probability theory confer an uncontested originality. It is performed by the London Brass, along with other late 20th-century works by Takemitsu, Tippett, Britten and Lutosławski’s funny set of variations after Paganini’s caprices.
