As part of our recent focus on Michel Plasson’s commitment to French music, we release this splendid collection of Chausson’s orchestral music. It includes the symphony, an admirable work full of tormented lyricism inspired by Wagner, but with a uniquely French touch of colour, alongside two tone poems: the rarely recorded Soir de fête, and Viviane, after the Lady of the Lake from the Arthurian legends about which Chausson was passionate.
