Among the major rediscoveries for which early music lovers can thank Michel Corboz is Giacomo Carissimi, the leading figure in 17th century Rome. He left his mark mainly as a sacred music composer, inventing a new form, the oratorio (some of which we can hear in a previous album by Corboz, released a few weeks ago). In this release we highlight pieces from the more traditional genres of mass and motet, which express his genius just as much, enlightened by the sweet rendition of the Gulbenkian orchestra and choir.
