See Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello for free in Covent Garden’s La Traviata

The real-life husband-and-wife team stars in the first Royal Opera House production to be streamed live in full, for free.

They’ve just released their first album, Love Duets, available today in stores and online. And among the romantic classics chosen by Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello for their joint debut on Warner Classics with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, nestled between Puccini and Bernstein, is Un Dì Felice from Verdi’s La Traviata.

This week the American soprano and tenor make their triumphant return to London’s Royal Opera House to sing Violetta and Alfredo in Richard Eyre’s iconic production of that opera. And you can witness their “palpable chemistry” (New York Times) when La Traviata is streamed in real time, complete and free around the world on May 20 — the first such offering direct from Covent Garden.

The couple is joined by legendary British baritone Simon Keenlyside Germont, conducted for the final, streamed performance by Wynne Griffiths in what "remains one of the most glorious productions in the operatic repertoire" (Daily Express). Tune in on 20 May, 7pm (BST) on the Royal Opera House website.

Covent Garden performances run May 6, 12, 17 and 20.
